The other logical fallacy I thought was easy to understand was begging the question. So if someone is fighting/arguing with me I find anything and everything to get them sidetracked and on another topic. The only time I will have an argument is when I am pretty positive that I am going to win or when I know that I am right. Red Herring as defined by Morey, is defined as “Occurring when a speaker attempts to diver the conversation by introducing a tangent line of thought to avoid discussing the main issues at stake” (page 55). Red Herring was another concept that was easy to understand. The severity of the parking attendant’s crime to me and Hitler’s crime against the certain type of culture is not the same severity. On the other hand, Hitler had over 13 million people murdered while he was dictator of Germany. The parking attendant is simply doing his/her job. Many people would say this comparison is outrageous, which is exactly why it would be moral equivalence. This is moral equivalence because Hitler is a very strongly disliked man. Moral Equivalence as defined by Morey, is defined as ” a fallacy attempting to equate acts or atrocities that are not equal in their severity” (page 55). I actually saw this comparison and put it on a picture of Hitler that I found on the internet. Moral Equivalence is another meme I found easy to understand.
This is funny to me because the dog seems to be sad that he would be a cat. This is hasty generalization because the dog thinks that he is a cat simply because cats have four legs and so does this dog. A hasty generalization, as defined by Sean Morey, “occurs when one reaches a conclusion without considering all the evidence, sometimes due to preexisting bias” (page 54). I thought that the hasty generalization was an easier meme to find. So I am going to share the logical fallacies that I thought were the easiest to understand.
Using memes to show logical fallacies was harder than I thought it would be.
